Bethnal Green – laundrette fire

Fifteen fire engines and 97 firefighters and officers are dealing with a warehouse blaze on Cheshire Street in Bethnal Green.

Around 60 tons of stacked linen was damaged by the blaze. Also the whole of the single storey building was heavily smoked logged.

Station Manager Nic Myatt said:

“Firefighters are working hard in gruelling conditions in a warehouse full of recyclable materials. The fire is contained but fire crews worked throughout the night to deal with the fire inside the building. There were no injuries.” 

The Brigade was called at 1903 and the fire was under control by 0244. The cause of the fire is not known at this stage. Fire crews from Whitechapel, Bethnal Green, Shoreditch, Dowgate, Stoke Newington, Islington, Soho, Homerton, Euston, Kentish Town, Walthamstow, Shadwell and Brixton fire stations werre at the scene.
