Firefighters pumped 20 tonnes of water out of a lock in order to help a stricken canal boat near Ferry Lane in Tottenham yesterday.

The 55 foot canal boat had partially submerged and one man escaped uninjured. Fire crews pumped out the water in order to stabilise the vessel and make it safe.

The Brigade was called at 1137 and the incident was over by 1800. Firefighters from Tottenham, Edmonton, Bethnal Green, Homerton, Stoke Newington and Walthamstow fire stations were at the scene.
