Sinking boat on River Lea

Firefighters were called to a boat sinking on the River Lea near Lea Bridge Road in Lower Clapton yesterday evening.

Walthamstow Station Manager Jim Hewett said:

“There was a narrow boat moored to the bank that was taking on water, but there were no occupants and no one was at risk.”

Three engines and two fire rescue vehicles from Leyton, Stoke Newington, Walthamstow, Euston and Bethnal Green attended the incident.

Fire crews left the boat in the hands of the owner and the canal and waterways authority. The Brigade was  called at 1731 and the incident was over at 1809.
