Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a block of flats in Loddiges Road, Hackney.
Part of a four roomed flat on the second floor was damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1620 and the fire was under control by 1658.
Fire crews from Homerton, Whitechapel, Stoke Newington and Shadwell fire stations attended the incident.
The fire is believed to be accidental and caused by a fault in an electrical appliance.
