Firefighters rescued a pig which had its head trapped between a concrete wall and railings at its pen at Newham City Farm.
Louise, the 150kg three-year-old pig, is thought to have been washing herself when she became stuck. Workers at the farm were unable to free her so called the Brigade.
Crew manager Ian Robinson, who was at the scene, said: “When we arrived, Louise had her head wedged between a concrete wall and a metal pole and was in quite a lot of distress.
“Because of the position she was in, she had blocked her airways and was struggling to breathe.”
Crews used heavy duty cutting equipment to cut through the metal pole and free Louise from the tight spot. Firefighters then gave her oxygen to help regulate her breathing.
Crew manager Robinson said: “Thankfully after a little while of receiving oxygen, Louise was able to stand up again and support her own weight.
“Usually with animal rescues, we would urge people to contact the RSPCA in the first instance and if they require our assistance, they will call us. However in this instance, our specialist equipment was needed to release Louise.”
The Brigade was called at 1051 and the incident was over for firefighters at 1114.
