Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a house in Forest Road, Forest Gate last night.
Part of the first floor of the property was damaged by fire.
One man was rescued from the roof of the property via a nine metre ladder. A second man was rescued from the first floor of the house by crews wearing breathing apparatus.
The Brigade was called at 2300 and the fire was under control at 0008. Fire crews from Leytonstone, Stratford, Plaistow and Leyton fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
