Rainham – car yard blaze

Eight fire engines and 58 firefighters and officers were called to a blaze at a vehicle recycling yard on Ferry Lane in Rainham.

Three lorries, 17 motor vehicles, one fork lift truck and one 40 foot container were damaged by fire. A total of15 7.5kg propane cylinders were removed from the scene and cooled to an ambient temperature.

The Brigade was called at 1321 and the fire was under control at 1614. Fire crews from Wennington and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
