Eight fire engines and 58 firefighters and officers dealt with a large blaze at a print works on Francis Road in Leyton.
A single storey timber building was completely destroyed and an adjacent brick building was badly damaged by fire.
Thankfully there were no injuries. There were a number of gas cylinders involved in the fire. As some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat a hazard zone was set up and around 20 people were evacuated as a precaution. They were allowed back when the cylinders had been cooled.
The Brigade was called at 0023 and the fire was under control by 0415. Fire crews from Leyton, Leytonstone, Stratford, Walthamstow, Homerton, Stoke Newington and Ilford fire stations attended the scene. Firefighters remain at the scene this morning damping down small pockets of fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
