35 firefighters and officers tackled a fire above a shop and flats on the High Street, in Whitton this afternoon.
Shop staff were alerted to the blaze when passers by noticed smoke on the roof. 8 people left the shop before the arrival of the Brigade.
Station Manager Dave Farr who was at the scene said;
“The shop had flats above it and quick thinking crews spread plastic sheeting in the flats to minimise water damage while the roof fire was brought under control.”
Part of the roof and some solar panels were damaged in the fire.
The Brigade was called at 1224 and the fire was under control at 1338.
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
