Steve Apter,

Deputy Commissioner, Safety and Assurance.

Steve joined the fire service on the Isle of Wight in 1990 and rose through the ranks to become Chief Fire Officer in 2011.  He was appointed Director of Community Safety and Resilience with Hampshire Fire Service before joining LFB as Director of Safety and Assurance in December 2016.

Steve led the Brigade’s strategic response to the Westminster Bridge terrorist attack and led the strategic arrangements supporting LFB response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
 
He is the NFCC Deputy Strategic lead for CT and CBRNe lead.
 
In addition he has volunteered with the UK Rescue Organisation for over 25 years and has been Chair for the Organisation for the last 8 years.
