London Fire Brigade

Volunteer cadet instructor

Help make a positive difference to the lives of young Londoners

Our Fire Cadets programme is only possible because of our adult volunteers.

Firefighters, non-operational Brigade staff and adults from the local community give up their personal time, and wide-ranging skills and experiences, to help support each cadet to achieve the best they can.

Volunteers are required to work one evening a week, which varies depending on where the course is held, and the occasional weekends.

In return, they have the opportunity to gain a range of transferable skills as well as having the chance to complete a number of accredited courses including:

  • Drill yard supervision
  • Safeguarding
  • Managing difficult behaviour

Our volunteers don't need to have experience of working with young people, just a passion for helping change a young person's life for the better.

Things to remember

  • You must be 18 or over
  • You must be willing to commit to regular week night evenings during term time over a 12 month period
  • You must have a desire to work with young people
