Greater regulation over the sale of secondhand appliances

Due to the difficulty in identifying whether an appliance is subject to a product recall, dangerous white goods may be on sale in the secondhand market, whether in shops or online.

People buying secondhand electrical goods may already be the most vulnerable and at risk of fire.

Those living in rented accommodation, which is furnished, have no choice when it comes to where their appliances come from.

In the US it is illegal to sell something under product recall.

Is this really an issue?

Our fire investigators have visited secondhand shops across the capital and found dangerous appliances, subject to a product recall, on sale.

These items were removed from sale but there is no data available to understand the extent of the problem and it is impossible to determine how many electrical items may be on sale.

We want to make it safer to buy secondhand goods. Help us buy supporting our campaign.
