FRIDAY 16 MAY
Chelsea – fire at block of flats
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at an eight storey block of flats at Sloane Avenue, Chelsea in the early hours of this morning.
Firefighters arrived to find that a blaze had broken out in a five roomed flat on the fifth floor. Crews quickly evacuated around 80 residents from the fifth and sixth floors to safety. The fire, which is believed to have started in the living room, damaged around a third of the property and caused heavy smoke damage.
The Brigade was called at 0523 and the fire was under control by 0606. Firefighters from Chelsea, Soho, Kensington and Clapham fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Belgravia – fire in building under refurbishment
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters attended a fire in a residential flat development on Chesham Place, in the early hours of this morning.
The blaze damaged part of the first floor of the building, which is currently under refurbishment.
Fire crews from Knightsbridge, Chelsea, Westminster and Soho attended the incident.
The Brigade was called at 0231 and the fire was under control by 0431. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
WEDNESDAY 14 MAY
West Drayton – house fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a house on East Road in West Drayton this morning. The fire damaged around half of the roof and a small amount of the first floor was also damaged by the fire.
The Brigade was called at 0821 and the fire was under control by 0937. Fire crews from Hayes, Heathrow and Hillingdon fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
West Wickham – rubbish blaze
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called to a rubbish fire which spread to nearby buildings on Glebe Way in West Wickham yesterday afternoon. The fire damaged part of the ground floor of the warehouse and the smoke spread to the flats above. Three people were led to safety from the first floor by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus.
The fire also spread to an adjacent house damaging a small amount of the ground floor.
The Brigade was called at 1610 and the fire was under control by 1745. Firefighters from Beckenham, Addington, Bromley and Forest Hill fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
MONDAY 12 MAY
Barking – flat fire
Fire crews were called to a blaze at a flat on Dovehouse Mead in Barking last night. The fire started in the living room and is believe to have been caused by a candle setting alight curtains.
A man was rescued via an internal staircase by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. He was suffering from smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 2132 and the fire was under control by 2205. Fire crews from Barking, East Ham and Plaistow fire stations attended the incident.
SATURDAY 10 MAY
Romford – fatal fire
A woman has died following a fire in a house on Bower Close in Romford.
Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters from Romford tackled the blaze, which damaged part of the first floor of the house.
The Brigade was called at 0048 and the fire was under control by 0117. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Barking – house blaze
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called to a fire at a house on Waverley Gardens in Barking this afternoon. Half of the roof was damaged by the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 1432 and the fire was under control by 1724. Fire crews from Barking, East Ham, Plaistow, Silvertown and Leytonstone fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Peckham – railway arch fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a railway arch on Consort Road in Peckham this morning. The fire severely damaged the railway arch.
The Brigade was called at 1118 and the fire was under control by 1218. Fire crews from Peckham and Old Kent Road fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
FRIDAY 9 MAY
Blackheath – house fire
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called to a blaze at a house on Charlton Park Lane in Blackheath this afternoon. The whole of the loft conversion was destroyed by the blaze. The fire spread and damaged half of the roof.
The Brigade was called at 1307 and the fire was under control by 1459. Fire crews from East Greenwich, Woolwich, Greenwich. Lee Green and Peckham fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Forest Hill – house blaze
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at a house on Duncomb Hill in Forest Hill last night. Half of the ground floor was damaged by fire.
The Brigade was called at 1904 and the fire was under control by 1930. Fire crews from Forest Hill, Lewisham, New Cross and Greenwich fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Cubitt Town – disused house fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a disused house on Glengall Grove, Cubitt Town in the early hours of this morning. The whole of the first floor and the roof was completely destroyed by the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 0218 and the fire was under control by 0457. Fire crews from Poplar, Millwall and Plaistow fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation by fire officers and police.
THURSDAY 8 MAY
South Harrow - collapsed houses
The London Fire Brigade was called to an incident on Stanley Road, South Harrow following reports of a gas explosion yesterday evening. Two residential properties on the road collapsed. Two people were taken to hospital and following a search of the premises the body of a man was discovered.
At the height of the incident six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were at the scene. Throughout today fire crews worked with contractors to stabilise the structure before the Brigade’s Urban Search and Rescue Teams removed the body from the rubble at 2105 this evening. The cause of the explosion is being investigated by the Brigade and the police. The Brigade was called at 2138 on Wednesday.
WEDNESDAY 7 MAY
Erith – house fire
Fire crews were called to a blaze at a house on Ramsden Road in Erith this morning. Part of the ground floor was damaged by the fire and firefighters managed to stop the fire from spreading to surrounding parts of the property.
Watch Manager Stewart Button said; “The whole house was filled with thick black smoke and there was no smoke alarm in the building. An older woman was woken by the smoke and made her way to the front door but had trouble opening it. Fortunately a passerby assisted her to safety.”
The older woman was suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews. Watch Manager Button added; “This incident highlights how important it is to have a working smoke alarm. It gives an early warning and provides valuable seconds to get out and call the fire brigade. Local firefighters will visit your home, chat to you about how you can prevent fires, and fit free smoke alarms if you need them. Call 08000 28 44 28 to set up a visit."
Mitcham – house blaze
Fire crews were called to a fire at a house on Hengelo Gardens in Mitcham this morning. Part of the ground floor was damaged by flat and there was heavy smoke throughout the building.
An older woman was led to safety by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. She was suffering from smoke inhalation and was treated by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1021 and the fire was under control by 1050. Fire crews from Mitham and Sutton fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Mill Hill – house fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters tackled a blaze in a house on Longfield Avenue, Mill Hill, yesterday evening.
The fire, which damaged part of a converted loft in the two storey house, is believed to have started by the careless disposal of smoking materials. The Brigade was called at 2012 and the fire was under control by 2106. Fire crews from Mill Hill, Hendon and Finchley attended the incident.
West Wickham – flat fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a flat on Deer Park Way in West Wickham this afternoon. The fire damaged part of the second floor flat and there was heavy smoke throughout the building.
A man was led to safety via an internal staircase by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus. He was suffering from smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1603 and the fire was under control by 1656. Firefighters from Bromley, Beckenham and Addington fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
MONDAY 5 MAY
Teddington – boat fire
Firefighters were called to fire on a boat at Trowlock Island on the River Thames in Teddington yesterday afternoon. There was a small explosion on the moored boat believed to have been caused by a petrol leak. Part of the twenty two foot vessel was damaged by fire.
A man and a woman were suffering from burns and were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1542 and the fire was under control by 1652. Fire crews from Twickenham and Kingston fire station attended the incident.
SUNDAY 4 MAY
Soho– fire in shop and flats
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called to a blaze in a shop and flats on Lisle Street early this morning.
The blaze destroyed the second floor of the four floor building and part of the third floor.
The Brigade was called at 0510 and the fire was under control by 0622. Fire crews from Soho, Clerkenwell, Euston, Silvertown, Westminster and Knightsbridge attended the incident. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
Hammersmith – house fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a house on Glenthorne Road in Hammersmith this afternoon. Half of the second floor and part of the roof was damaged by the blaze.
Three people left the building before the Brigade arrived. They were all suffering from smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1213 and the fire was under control by 1250. Fire crews from Hammersmith, Fulham and Kensington fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Westminster – flat blaze
Fire crews were called to a fire in a basement flat on Cambridge Street in Westminster this evening. The fire damaged a small amount of the property but there was heavy smoke throughout the building.
A man and a woman were rescued by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. They were suffering from smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1958 and the fire was under control by 2019. Fire crews from Westminster and Chelsea were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
FRIDAY 2 MAY
Marylebone – flat fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a house converted into flats on Bryanston Street in Marylebone last night. Part of the first floor was damaged by the blaze and there was heavy smoke throughout the building.
The Brigade was called at 1908 and the fire was under control by 2014. Fire crews from Soho, Paddington and Clerkenwell fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Ealing – pub blaze
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at a pub on Popes Lane in Ealing yesterday afternoon. Part of the roof was damaged by the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 1728 and the fire was under control by 2105. Fire crews from Ealing, Acton and Chiswick fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
THURSDAY 1 MAY
Lewisham – house blaze
Fire crews were called to fire at a house on Sandrock Road in Lewisham last night. The fire started in the living room and firefighters managed to stop the fire from spreading to surrounding rooms. There was severe smoke damage to the whole of the building.
Two adults and a child left the property before the Brigade arrived. A man was suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 2021 and the fire is under control by 2052. Firefighters from Greenwich, Lee Green and Deptford fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
WEDNESDAY 30 APRIL
Holloway – block of flats fire
Fire crews were called to a blaze at flats above a shop on Holloway Road, Holloway in the early hours of this morning. Half of the staircase from the ground to the third floor was damaged by the blaze and there was heavy smoke logging throughout the building.
A man was rescued from the second floor by firefighters using an external ladder. A further man and a woman were led to safety via an internal staircase by crews wearing breathing apparatus. They were all suffering from smoke inhalation and treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service.

The Brigade was called at 0302 and the fire was under control by 0355. Fire crews from Islington fire station attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation by fire officers and the police.
TUESDAY 29 APRIL
Brixton – flat blaze
Fire crews were called to a fire at a flat on Stockwell Road in Brixton yesterday afternoon. The fire damaged part of the ground floor flat and there was heavy smoke throughout the building. A man was led to safety by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.
The Brigade was called at 1500 and the fire was under control by 1528. Fire crews from Lambeth and Brixton fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Woodford Green – pavilion fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a pavilion on Snakes Lane East in Woodford Green last night. The whole of the single storey building was destroyed by the fire.
The Brigade was called at 2302 and the fire was under control by 2334. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
MONDAY 28 APRIL
Tooley Street - burst water main
Fire crews remained at the scene of a burst water main on Tooley Street SE1 today, using three high volume pumps (HVPs)to drain water away.
Each HVP is capable of pumping around 7,000 litres of water away per minute.
A number of commercial premises were affected either through flooding or through loss of power and roads around the immediate area were closed.
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters also attended assisting with pumping water away.
The Brigade was called at 0934 on Sunday morning and the incident was under control by 1615 on Monday.
Tooting – house fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at a house on Midmoor Road, Tooting yesterday evening.
One man managed to leave the building before the arrival of the Brigade and was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service suffering from smoke inhalation.
The fire which started on the ground floor has damaged nearly 70 per cent of the ground floor and 10 per cent of the first floor.
The Brigade was called at 2120 and the fire was under control by 2212. Fire crews from Tooting and West Norwood fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Brixton – flat fire
Fire crews from Brixton and Clapham fire stations were called to a fire at a flat on Hayter Road, Brixton on Sunday evening.
A man and woman left the flat before the arrival of the Brigade – the woman was treated by the London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation.
Around twenty firefighters tackled the blaze which is believed to have started in the bedroom of the third floor flat. The fire damaged around 40 per cent of the flat.
The Brigade was called at 1846 and the fire was under control by 1945. The cause is under investigation.
FRIDAY 25 APRIL
Stratford - shop fire
Ten fire engines and around 50 firefighters were called to a shop with offices above on Broadway in Stratford last night. The whole of the building including the roof was destroyed by the blaze and crews worked hard to stop the fire from spreading to surrounding buildings.
The Brigade was called at 2326 and the fire was under control by 0733 this morning. Fire crews from Stratford and surrounding stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Ealing - residents evacuated after caravan fire
Around 45 residents were evacuated after a caravan caught fire in a car park behind a block of flats at Windmill Road, Ealing in the early hours of this morning.
On arrival at the scene, firefighters discovered a propane cylinder and immediatedly put up a hazard zone as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat. The residents were evacuated to a safe area until the cylinder had been cooled and the hazard zone was reduced when they were allowed to return to their homes.
The fire completely gutted the caravan. Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters from Ealing and Acton fire stations attended the incident.
The Brigade was called at 0441 and the fire was under control by 0608. The cause of the fire is under invetsigation.
THURSDAY 24 APRIL
Wapping – house fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a house on Stevedore Street in Wapping this afternoon. Half of the ground floor was damaged by fire.
A woman and five children left the house before the Brigade arrived.
The Brigade was called at 1325 and the fire was under control at 1416. Fire crews from Kingsland, Silvertown, Whitechapel and Dowgate fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Wimbledon – flats fire
Fire crews were called to a blaze in a block of flats in Wandle Bank, Wimbledon in the early hours of this morning. The fire completely destroyed a communal bin room and smoke spread throughout the building.
Around 15 people from flats and a neighbouring house were evacuated.
The Brigade was called at 0453. Firefighters from Wimbledon and Mitchem fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Hornsey – house blaze
Fire crews were called to a fire at a house converted into flats on Ferme Park Road, Hornsey in the early hours of this morning. The fire damaged part of the third floor landing and there was heavy smoke logging throughout the building.
A woman was led to safety via an internal staircase by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus. She was suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 0015 and the fire was under control by 0051. Firefighters from Hornsey fire were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Stratham – flat blaze
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Leigham Avenue in Streatham this afternoon. The fire severely damaged the ground floor flat and there was heavy smoke throughout the building.
A man was led to safety by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus. Three further people left the building before the Brigade arrived.
The Brigade was called at 1107 and the fire was under control by 1201. Firefighters West Norwood, Croydon and Tooting fire stations attended the incident. The cause of fire is under investigation.
WEDNESDAY 23 APRIL
Barking – waste transfer station blaze
Eight fire engines and around 40 firefighters are attending a fire in a waste transfer station on River Road in Barking. An area the size of a football pitch which contains around 300 tonnes of rubbish is alight.
The fire is surrounded and fire crews have worked hard to stop the fire from spreading to surrounding areas. Firefighters are likely to be at the scene for the rest of the day damping down the scene.
The Brigade was called at 0244. Fire crews from Barking and surrounding stations are at the scene.
Kensington – pub fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a pub on Moscow Road, Kensington in the early hours of this morning. Part of the ground floor was damaged by the blaze and there was heavy smoke throughout the building.
The Brigade was called at 0413 and the fire was under control by 0513. Fire crews from Kensington, Paddington and North Kensington fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Poplar – factory blaze
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at a factory on Towcester Road, Poplar in the early hours of this morning. Part of the ground floor was damaged by the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 0510 and the fire was under control by 0651. Fire crews from Poplar, Millwall, Stratford and Bow fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation by fire officers and the police.
SUNDAY 20 APRIL
West Drayton – fire in industrial storage area
Ten fire engines and around 50 firefighters tackled a blaze in an industrial yard on Tavistock Road, West Drayton, overnight.
The blaze affected an open storage area and a number of pallets, tyres, vehicles and industrial units were damaged by fire. Because gas cylinders were involved in the incident, a hazard zone was set up as a precaution. Some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.
The Brigade was called at 0048 and the fire was under control by 0627. Firefighters from Hillingdon, Hayes and other surrounding fire stations attended the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
FRIDAY 18 APRIL
Homerton – shop and flats fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at a shop and flats on Homerton High Street in the early hours of this morning.
The fire, which is believed to have started on the second floor of the three storey building, damaged around three quarters of the second floor and nearly half of the roof.
The Brigade was called at 0440 and the fire was bought under control by 0548. Fire crews from Homerton and Leyton fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation by police and fire officers.
Clapton – cylinder fire
Fire crews are likely to remain all day at the scene of a fire on wasteland on Rossendale Street, Upper Clapton after discovering an acetylene cylinder on the site.
A 200 metre hazard zone was immediately put in place as a precaution as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat. Over 200 residents were evacuated from nearby flats although they were allowed back home later after the hazard zone was reduced.
Fire crews from Stoke Newington and Homerton fire stations attended the incident.
Leytonstone – fire in restaurant/shop/flat
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters tackled a blaze in a small parade of buildings on Leytonstone High Road, yesterday afternoon.
Fire badly damaged the restaurant and also caused minor damage to an adjacent flat and shop under refurbishment.
The Brigade was called at 1411 (Thursday) and the fire was under control by 1643. Crews from Leytonstone, Leyton and other surrounding fire stations tackled the blaze.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Enfield – fire in block of flats
Firefighters from Enfield and Edmonton fire stations were called to a block of flats on Eastfield Road, Enfield, after a fire broke out in the kitchen of a flat on the eleventh floor yesterday evening.
Around 20 residents left the building before the Brigade arrived. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus led a further five people to safety. The fire, believed to be accidental, damaged approximately half of the flat. Firefighters worked hard to stop the fire from spreading to the surrounding flats.
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters attended the incident. The Brigade was called at 1723 and the fire was bought under control by 1804. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
WEDNESDAY 16 APRIL
New Malden – shop fire
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called to a blaze at a shop on Burlington Road, New Malden in the early hours of this morning. The whole of the ground floor, half of the first floor and part of the roof was damaged by the blaze. Firefighters managed to stop the fire spreading to surrounding buildings.
Two propane cylinders were involved in the incident. A hazard zone was set up as a precaution as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat. No people were evacuated.
The Brigade was called at 0012 and the fire was under control by 0101. Fire crews New Malden, Wimbledon, Surbiton, Mitcham, Sutton and Kingston fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
TUESDAY 15 APRIL
Acton – flat fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a flat on Cotton Avenue, Acton in the early hours of this morning. The fire started in the bedroom and is believed to have been caused by a candle setting alight bedding. Half of the third floor flat was damaged by the blaze and there was heavy smoke logging throughout the building.
Three men and two women left the flat before the Brigade arrived. One woman was suffering from burns and the others were suffering from smoke inhalation. They were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews. Around 20 people left adjacent properties before the Brigade arrived.
Candles should never be left unattended and should always be placed on a flame retardant surface.
The Brigade was called at 0331 and the fire was under control by 0432. Fire crews from Acton, Park Royal and Willesden attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Orpington – bungalow blaze
Fire crews were called to a fire at a bungalow on Augustine Road in Orpington last night. The fire started in the bedroom and is believed to have been caused by an electric blanket. Firefighters managed to contain the fire to the bedroom and there was heavy smoke throughout the property.
An older woman left the building before the Brigade arrived. She was suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1938 and the fire was under control by 2013. Fire crews from Orpington, Sidcup and Bromley fire stations were at the scene.
MONDAY 14 APRIL
Holloway – public house fire
Fire crews were called to a blaze at a pub with flats above on Camden Road, Holloway in the early hours of this morning. The whole of the ground floor storage room was damaged by the blaze and firefighters managed to stop the fire from spreading to surrounding properties.
Ten people were led to safety from the second and third floors by fire crews and a further ten people left the building before the Brigade arrived.
The Brigade was called at 0140 and the fire was under control by 0224. Firefighters from Holloway and Kentish Town attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
THURSDAY 10 APRIL
Edgware – cylinders blaze at garages
Firefighters are still at the scene of a fire involving cylinders at two garages to the rear of a property at Whistler Gardens, Edgware, HA8.
At the height of the incident 20 firefighters and three fire engines attended the blaze, but now one fire crew remains cooling the cylinders.
The Brigade received multiple calls to the blaze at around 1343 on Wednesday. Firefighters worked to bring the fire under control and a 200 metre hazard zone was initially put in place around the garages after one acetylene cylinder, one oxygen cylinder and a propane cylinder were found to be inside.
Nearby residents who were evacuated for a short time are now back in their homes and the hazard zone has been reduced to approximately 20 metres. Fire crews remain at the scene cooling the cylinders and are likely to be there overnight.
The two garages, of approximately 5 metres by 8 metres each, were destroyed by the fire, as well as a car.
Firefighters from Mill Hill, Willesden and Hendon fire stations are attending the incident.

Dagenham – block of flats fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a block of flats in Armistead Walk, Dagenham in the early hours of this morning. The fire damaged half of a communal staircase and there was heavy smoke within the building.
Four adults and two children were led to safety via an internal staircase by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.
The Brigade was called at 0159 and the fire was under control by 0252. Fire crews from Dagenham and Barking fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Walthamstow – flats fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a flat on Priory Court in Walthamstow last night. Half of the first floor flat was damaged by the blaze and fire crews managed to stop the fire from spreading to surrounding properties.
A woman left the building before the Brigade arrived. She was suffering from smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1929 and the fire was under control by 2022. Firefighters from Tottenham, Chingford and Woodford fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Balham – flat blaze
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at a house converted into flats on Balham High Road, Balham in the early hours of this morning. The fire completely destroyed a flat and firefighters managed to stop the fire from spreading to surrounding properties. The fire is believed to have been caused by the careless disposal of a cigarette.
A woman left the building before the Brigade arrived. She was suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 0225 and the fire was under control by 0328. Fire crews from Tooting and Clapham fire station attended the incident.
MONDAY 7 APRIL
Tooting – house fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a house fire this morning on Headington Road.
The blaze damaged half of the ground floor, stairs and the whole of the first floor. Four people left the house before the Brigade arrived.
The Brigade was called at 0605 and the fire was under control by 0714. Crews from Tooting Fire Station and the surrounding area attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
SUNDAY 6 APRIL
Hammersmith – restaurant fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a restaurant on Rainville Road in Hammersmith last night. The fire damaged part of the ground floor kitchen and a small amount of the second floor was also damaged in the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 1940 and the fire was under control by 2150. Fire crews from Hammersmith, Chiswick and Kensington fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
SATURDAY 5 APRIL
Brixton – shop fire
Fifteen fire engines and around 75 firefighters were called to a blaze at a shop with offices above on Brixton Road in Brixton this morning.
The fire badly damaged the ground floor and completely destroyed the building's first, second and third floors and roof. Firefighters also cooled eight butane cylinders that were involved in the blaze.
Seven adults and a child were evacuated from an adjacent building before the arrival of the Brigade and they were treated for smoke inhalation by the London Ambulance Service.
The Brigade was called at 1047 and the fire was under control by 1802. Fire cres from Brixton and surrounding stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Edgware – timber yard fire
Eight fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a blaze at a timber yard in Barnfield Road, Edgware last night.
The timber yard and outbuildings, measuring approximately 30 metres by 30 metres was completely destroyed by the fire.
Firefighters using jets and breathing apparatus were bringing the fire under control at 0252 Saturday morining. The Brigade was called at 2146 on Friday. Crews remained at the scene throughout the night and into the morning damping down the scene. Fire crews from Mill Hill, Stanmore, Barnet, Hendon and Finchley fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
FRIDAY 4 APRIL
Plaistow – fire in block of flats
A fire at a flat on the ninth floor of a 22 storey block of flats in New Barn Street, Plaistow, was tackled by six fire engines and around thirty firefighters this evening.
The Brigade was called at 1842 and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus stopped the blaze in the four room flat from spreading, with the fire under control by 2024. Half of the flat was damaged by the fire.
A woman and two children left the flat before the arrival of the Brigade and were treated by London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation and shock.
An elderly woman suffering minor smoke inhalation was escorted to safety from the 19th floor by firefighters and treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by London Fire Brigade and the police.
Notting Hill – office fire
Six fire engines and around thirty firefighters fought a fire at an office building of four floors and a basement at Holland Park, Notting Hill. Around a fifth of the ground floor was damaged by fire.
Three people were rescued from the second floor by firefighters using a turntable ladder. A further two people were led to safety by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus.
The Brigade was called at 1423 and the fire was under control by 1532.
Firefighters from Chelsea, Hammersmith, Paddington, North Kensington and Kensington fire stations attended the incident.
Upminster – farm fire
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters tackled a severe fire at farm buildings on Gerbins Lane in Upminster this morning.
The Brigade was called at 0909 and the blaze was under control by 1141.
A single storey metal building of approximately 30 metres by 5 metres was substantially damaged by fire. Two adjacent single storey industrial units, both 30 metres by five metres, were also involved in the fire and slightly damaged.
Firefighters removed nine gas cylinders, including one acetylene cylinder, from an adjacent building as a precaution. These can explode if exposed to heat.
South Harrow – shed and garage fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a range of sheds and garages on Minehead Road last night.
The fire also involved two propane cylinders which had to be cooled. Some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat and around 30 residents were evacuated from neighbouring houses for around an hour as a precaution.
The Brigade was called at 1907 and the fire was under control at 2114. Crews from Northolt, Wimbledon and Southall attended the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
THURSDAY 3 APRIL
Chiswick – shop blaze
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at a shop on Turnham Green Terrace, Chiswick in the early hours of this morning. The fire damaged a small amount of the single storey shop.
The Brigade was called at 0157 and the fire was under control by 0246. Fire crews from Acton, Hammersmith and Chiswick fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
WEDNESDAY 2 APRIL
Hanwell – cylinder fire
Firefighters were called to a blaze at a garden shed on Boston Road in Hanwell yesterday afternoon. The fire completely destroyed the shed and the fire also damaged some nearby fences.
Butane cylinders were involved in the incident. Several cylinders exploded and another one had also been exposed to heat. A 50 metre hazard zone was put in place and around 50 people were evacuated from nearby homes and a community centre.
Watch Manager Peter Elliot said; “Crews worked quickly to bring the fire under control and to cool the cylinder down which was also close to exploding. The hazard zone was in place for around 20 minutes and then people were allowed back into their properties. This incident highlights how dangerous cylinders can be when exposed to heat and I would urge people to check their garden sheds for any unwanted cylinders or paint tins. The Brigade was called at 1801 and the fire was under control by 1920. Fire crews from Ealing fire station were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Harrow – hotel blaze
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at a hotel on Hindes Road in Harrow last night. The fire damaged part of the roof and fire crews managed to stop the fire from spreading to surrounding rooms.
Around 20 people left the building before the Brigade arrived.
The Brigade was called at 2246 and the fire was under control by 0040. Firefighters from Harrow, Northolt and Wembley fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
TUESDAY 1 APRIL
Harringay – flat fire
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called to a blaze at a flat with a shop below on Grand Parade in Harringay this morning. The fire severely damaged the third floor and also part of the roof was destroyed by the blaze.
Four adults and six children were led to safety by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus via an internal staircase.
The Brigade was called at 0554 and the fire was under control by 0802. Firefighters from Tottenham, Hornsey and Holloway fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
MONDAY 31 MARCH
Barnet – flat fire
Fire crews were called to a blaze at a flat on Lyonsdown Road in Barnet last night. The fire started in the living room and is believed to have been caused by the careless disposal of a cigarette. The fire damaged a small amount of the second floor flat and there was heavy smoke throughout the building.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a woman and two men were led to safety. A woman and a man were suffering from smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

SUNDAY 30 MARCH
Farnborough – light aircraft crash
London Fire Brigade was called to a light aircraft crash in Farnborough, Kent earlier today.
The plane had crashed into a residential area and eight fire engines and around 40 firefighters attended the incident on Broadwater Gardens. The Brigade also sent four fire rescue units with urban search and rescue capabilities to the scene.
One house was destroyed by the fire and part of the a neighbouring property was also damaged. The Brigade was called at 1437 and fire crews remained at the incident overnight.
SATURDAY 29 MARCH
Barking – house blaze
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at a house on Wilmington Gardens in Barking. The fire severely damaged the ground floor and part of the first floor was damaged by the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 1825 and the fire was under control by 1859. Fire crews from East Ham, Ilford and Barking fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
THURSDAY 27 MARCH
Stratford – Derelict house fire
Firefighters helped stop a fire from spreading along a terraced street after a blaze started at a derelict house in Saint George’s Avenue, Stratford, yesterday evening.
The Brigade was alerted to the fire at 2142 after receiving multiple calls from members of the public who had seen smoke and fire at the rear and front of the boarded up building.
Twenty firefirefighters and four fire engines took just under two hours to tackle the blaze. The fire is believed to have started at the rear of the two storey property and was under control at 2329, but damaged all floors and the roof.
Firefighters from Stratford and Plaistow fire stations attended the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
TUESDAY 25 MARCH
Walthamstow – HGV fire
The Brigade was called to a heavy goods vehicle alight on Billet Road, Walthamstow at 0521 this morning.
Around 30 firefighters from Chingford, Edmonton, Tottenham, Woodford and Walthamstow fire stations attended the blaze, which completely destroyed the vehicle. The fire was under control by 0702. The cause is under investigation.
MONDAY 24 MARCH
Edmonton – fire in block of flats
Eight fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a blaze in a block of flats on Woolmer Road, Edmonton last night.
The fire damaged part of the lower ground floor of the building. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus helped around 25 people leave the building and around 10 people were treated for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service.
The Brigade was called at 2339 and the fire was under control by 0042. Crews from Edmonton and surrounding fire stations attended the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
THURSDAY 20 MARCH
Feltham – flat fire
Two fire engines and around 10 firefghters were called to a fire at a third floor flat above a shop on Staines Road, Feltham in the early hours of this morning.
The fire which is believed to have started after an oil burner caught alight damaged around 20 per cent of the flat but caused heavy smoke damage throughout the whole property. The flat was empty at the time and the residents in the flat below were awoken by the smell of smoke and alerted the fire brigade.
“There was no working smoke alarm in this property which would have alerted people a lot earlier to the fire. And if the doors had been closed, the smoke damage could have been limited to the room where the fire started" said Watch Manager Phil Watkins from Feltham Fire Station.
“We are offering free home fire safety visits to everyone in the area where we’ll give you free fire safety advice and fit smoke alarms where needed. To make an appointment or for more information call freephone 0800 028 44 28.”
The Brigade was called at 0326 and the fire was under control by 0351. Fire crews from Feltham Fire Station attended the incident.
Croydon – bungalow fire
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a man from a burning bungalow on Arundel Road in Croydon last night.
The Brigade was alerted to the fire by a neighbour and around seventy per cent of the terraced bungalow was damaged in the blaze. The man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. He subsequently died in hospital.
Around 20 firefighters and four fire engines from Croydon and Norbury attended the incident. The Brigade was called at 2142 and the fire was under control by 2220. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
Hendon – house fire
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called after a fire broke out at a semi-detached house on Temple Fortune Lane NW11 last night.
The fire which is believed to have started after a halogen light on the first floor ceiling caught fire and spread to the roof. The family of the house managed to get out of the property safely and called the fire brigade. Around half of the roof and 10 per cent of the first floor was damaged by the fire.
The Brigade was called at 2003 and the fire was under control by 2203. Fire crews from Hendon, Finchley, West Hampstead and Hornsey Fire Stations attended the incident.
WEDNESDAY 19 MARCH
Hackney – house fire
Four fire engines and 20 firefighters were called to a fire at a house on Abersham Road, E8 last night.
The fire damaged around half of the first floor of the two storey house. Firefighters from Stoke Newington and Kingsland Fire Stations attended the incident.
The Brigade was called at 2109 and the fire was under control by 2152. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Sutton – house fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at a two storey house at Cotswold Way, Worcester Park late last night. The fire damaged about a quarter of the first floor and three quarters of the roof.
The Brigade was called at 2320 and the fire was under control by just after midnight. Fire crews from Sutton and New Malden Fire Stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
TUESDAY 18 MARCH
Beacontree – flat fire
Firefighters were called to a fire in a block of flats on Whalebone Lane in Beacontree yesterday afternoon.
The blaze damaged 50 per cent of a communal stairway between the ground and third floors and two older women had to be treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service.
The Brigade was called at 1428 and the fire was under control by 1455. Fire crews from Stratford and Hornchurch attended the incident. The cause of the blaze is now under investigation.
SATURDAY 15 MARCH
Walthamstow – house fire
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters attended a blaze at a terraced house on St Andrews Road in Walthamstow on Saturday night.
The fire badly damaged the ground floor, first floor and roof of the house, as well as part of the neighbouring property's roof. Crews also cooled and removed three propane cylinders that were involved in the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 2010 and crews from Walthamstow, Tottenham, Leyton, East Ham and Woodford fire stations attended the incident. The Brigade was called at 2010 and the fire was under control by 2138. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
Shoreditch – derelict factory fire
Fire crews were called to a fire at a derelict factory and offices on Leonard Street in Shoreditch on Saturday morning.
The fire damaged fifty percent of the second floor, all of the third floor and half of the roof of the building.
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters from Shoreditch, Whitechapel, Dowgate and Clerkenwell fire stations attended the incident. The Brigade was called at 1056 and the fire was under control by 1332. The cause of the blaze is now under investigation.
THURSDAY 13 MARCH
Dagenham – shop and flat fire
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called to a blaze at a shop with flats above on Porters Avenue in Dagenham this afternoon.
The fire destroyed the first and second floors of the three floor building, as well as its roof. The blaze spread to a neighbouring property, damaging a small part of its roof as well.
The Brigade was called at 1507 and the fire was under control by 1712. Firefighters from Dagenham and surrounding fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
Downham – woman rescued from house fire
A passing lorry driver rescued an elderly woman after a fire broke out on the ground floor of her house on Dunkery Road, Downham in the early hours of this morning. After noticing smoke coming out of her front door, the man rescued the woman and called 999.
Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters arrived at the scene and quickly put out the fire. The woman was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.
The fire which is believed to be accidental damaged around half of the ground floor. The Brigade was called at 0533 and the fire was under control by 0559. Fire crews from Downham and Eltham Fire Stations attended the incident.
Hillingdon – gas main fire
Fire crews were called to a fire at a maisonette on Pinewood Avenue in Hillingdon. The fire is believed to have been caused by the careless disposal of a cigarette which set alight some rubbish. This spread to an external gas main and caused a lot of smoke to build up in the first floor maisonette.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a man and a woman using an external ladder. Around 30 people from adjacent properties were evacuated as a precaution because of the escaped gas.
The Brigade was called at 2203 and the fire was under control by 0015. Firefighters from Heathrow, Hayes and Hillingdon fire stations were at the scene.
Ealing – house fire
Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters were called to a fire at a two storey semi-detached house on Haymill Close, Perivale on Wednesday evening.
A man and a woman left the property before the Brigade arrived. The fire, believed to be accidental, damaged around 40 per cent of the first floor of the house.
The Brigade was called at 2018 and the fire was under control by 2144. Fire crews from Ealing and Wembley Fire Stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
WEDNESDAY 12 MARCH
Romford – house fire
Fire crews were called to a blaze at a house on Hendon Garden in Romford last night. Part of the first floor was damaged by fire and there was heavy smoke logging throughout the building.
A woman was suffering from shock and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1741 and the fire was under control by 1802. Firefighters from Romford fire station attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
TUESDAY 11 MARCH
Balham - fire crews rescue trapped builder
London Fire Brigade’s Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams freed a trapped builder after a roof collapsed in the outbuilding of a mosque on Old Devonshire Road, Balham this morning.
The first call came just after 9am this morning. Fire crews from Tooting Fire Station were the first to arrive at the two storey building where the ceiling had collapsed, trapping the man.
Three fire rescue units from Battersea, Lewisham and Euston Fire Stations along with specialist USAR trained staff and equipment arrived shortly afterwards. The teams worked quickly to shore up unsafe parts of the building to create a stable environment to protect the casualty from further injury and to make sure firefighters were able to work safely. Fire crews rescued the man at around 11.25 and he was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.
Incident Commander Peter Martin said “USAR crews along with firefighters from Tooting and Clapham used their skills and specialist rescue equipment to release the trapped casualty quickly under very difficult circumstances. This was very much a multi agency approach with support from the LAS, HEMS, the Met Police and the borough surveyor. The coordinated response is a testament to the close working relationship of all our partners.”
MONDAY 10 MARCH
Mitcham – flat fire
Fire crews were called to a fire at a flat on Chatsworth Place in Mitcham last night. The fire damaged a small amount of the first floor flat and the fire is believed to have been caused by cooking left unattended.
An older woman was led to safety by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. She was suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 2114 and the fire was under control by 2134. Fire crews from Mitcham and Norbury fire stations attended the incident.
Harrow Weald - farm fire
Fire crews are still at the scene of a fire at a farm in Old Redding, Harrow Weald. At the height of the fire last night, eight fire engines and around 40 firefighters fought the blaze which has severely damaged a Dutch barn at the premises. The presence of gas cylinders in the fire means that the Brigade will be at the scene for some time cooling the cylinders until it is safe for them to be removed.
The Brigade was called at 1822 on Sunday.
SUNDAY 9 MARCH
Edgware – disused car showroom fire
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called to a blaze at a disused car showroom on Edgware Road in Edgware this morning. Part of the ground floor was damaged by the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 0609 and the fire was under control by 0820. Fire crews from Stanmore, Mill Hill, Wembley, Hendon and Harrow fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
FRIDAY 7 MARCH
Canning Town – hotel fire
Ten fire engines and around 50 firefighters were called to a blaze in a hotel on Victoria Dock Road this evening.
The fire damaged around half of the building's top floor and roof.
Around 100 people were evacuated from the hotel by fire crews and were temporarily re-accommodated at a local school.
The Brigade was called at 2051 and the fire was under control by 2354. Crews from Plaistow, Barking, Whitechapel, East Ham and Poplar fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Stratford – house fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze in a house on Margery Park Road last night.
The fire damaged the ground, first floor and staircase of the four floor building and three people left the house before the Brigade arrived.
Crews from Stratford and Plaistow attended the incident. The Brigade was called at 2000 and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
South Harrow – flat fire
Firefighters were called to a blaze at a block of flats on Swift Close, South Harrow last night.
The fire, which damaged around one quarter of a four-room first floor flat, is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault. One woman, who had left the building before the Brigade arrived, was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service.
The Brigade was called at 2104 and crews worked quickly to get the fire under control. Two fire engines and around ten firefighters from Northolt attended the incident which was over at 2142.

Bow – shop fire
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called to a blaze in a block of flats on Daling Way yesterday afternoon.
Around three-quarters of the flat on the fourteenth floor was damaged in the fire and crews wearing breathing apparatus led on person to safety.
The Brigade was called at 1210 and the fire was under control at 1333.Crews from Bow, Shadwell, Bethnal Green, Homerton and Poplar Fire Stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
WEDNESDAY 5 MARCH
Wallington – flat fire
Fire crews were called to a blaze at a flat on Olley Close in Wallington last night. The fire damaged a small amount of the ground floor flat and there was heavy smoke throughout the building.
A smoke alarm sounded and alerted the residents to the fire. An older man and woman were rescued by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. They were suffering from smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 2342 and the fire was under control by 0002. Fire crews from Wallington, Croydon and Purley fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation by fire officers and the Police.
Poplar – hotel fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a hotel on Coriander Avenue last night.
The fire damaged part of a room on the ground floor of the four floor building and around 300 hundred people were evacuated before the Brigade arrived. One person had to be treated by London Ambulance Service at the scene for slight smoke inhalation.
The Brigade was called at 2248 and the fire was under control by 0014. Crews from Poplar, Silvertown and Bow Fire Stations attended the incident. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
Silvertown - fire in tyre storage area
Fire crews were called to a blaze in a tyre storage area on Brunel Street in Silvertown in the early hours of this morning.
The blaze left the storage area badly damaged and firefighters had to cool two propane cylinders that were involved in the fire.
The Brigade was called at 0253 and the incident was over at 0813 this morning. Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters from Silvertown, Plaistow and Poplar attended and the cause of the fire is now under investigation.
SUNDAY 2 MARCH
Orpington – flat blaze
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat with a shop below on Petts Wood Road in Orpington this morning. Half of the first floor flat was damaged by fire and there was heavy smoke throughout the building.
A person was rescued from the first floor by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus. They were suffering from smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 0821 and the fire was under control by 0855. Firefighters from Bromley, Sidcup and Orpington fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
