16 March 2009

Elisha Peleg, Jerusalem’s Municipal Council Member for sport, emergency, security and fire and rescue services, visited London Fire Brigade on Friday 13 March, to share knowledge about measures used to tackle terror attacks.

During the visit, hosted by London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority Chairman, Councillor Brian Coleman AM FRSA, Councillor Peleg met key Brigade staff including London Fire Commissioner Ron Dobson and operational staff who plan the capital’s capability to deal with terrorism and other major civil incidents.

Councillor Coleman said: “London Fire Brigade is home to some of the best equipped and most highly trained firefighters in the world, and we have substantial experience in planning responses to major incidents. However, we must never be complacent, and visits like this allow us to learn from others.

“Councillor Peleg was impressed with London’s capability, and I’m pleased to say that London Fire Brigade also benefitted greatly from his knowledge of dealing with the threat of terrorism in Jerusalem.”

The visit took place at the Brigade’s headquarters in Southwark.
