Plans for new Havering fire station move closer

26 November 2007

A new fire station for Havering moved a step closer following the purchase of three units at the Falcon Business Centre on the Harold Hill Industrial Estate in Romford.

The units have been bought by the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA), which runs the London Fire Brigade. Planning permission for the new fire station (which will take the number of fire stations in Havering to four) has been given the go ahead by Havering Council and it is hoped work will begin early in 2008 to transform the site into a 21st century fire station with office accommodation, training area and gym and community facilities. Once work begins, the new station should be operational within 10 months.

Val Shawcross, Chair of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority, said: “A key part of our London Safety Plan is outlining how we aim to make the best use of the Brigade’s resources by recognising where fires and other emergencies are most likely to occur. As a result we are investing in the safety of London and Londoners by moving and introducing appliances to those areas where they are most needed.

“The site identified for Havering’s new fire station is in an excellent location from an operational perspective and will help to further improve response times and the level of fire cover in London and the local area.”
