London Fire Brigade

Brigade in the Parade

23 August 2007

For the first time in three years, the London Fire Brigade will be taking part in the Notting Hill Carnival parade.

Firefighters and brigade staff will be joining in the celebrations with members of Image community group and an African dance troupe, by taking to the streets alongside a float depicting the ficticious Notting Hill Fire Station on both Sunday and Monday of the bank holiday weekend.

Firefighters from North Kensington Fire Station will also be on hand giving out important fire safety information to festival goers and encouraging people to take up one of our free home fire safety visits.

“We are really excited this year to be taking part in Europe’s biggest street party” said London Fire Commissioner Sir Ken Knight. “As well as supporting such an important event, Carnival offers us a unique opportunity to get our fire safety messages across to the capital’s diverse communities and to encourage interest from people who may never have considered a career as a firefighter before.”

The Brigade is also encouraging food vendors and carnival participants to make sure that safety is a priority for the thousands of people that take part in the carnival and to take extra care with cooking and barbecues.
