Aiming high at Chingford Fire Station open day

03 August 2007

Firefighters from the Brigade's parachute team will be dropping in from the skies above as part of Chingford Fire Station Open Day, on Saturday, 4 August at 34 The Ridgeway, Chingford.

Chingford and Waltham Forest residents are invited to come along and learn more about the Brigade.

The parachute team will be performing a demonstration of their skills, and landing in the nearby school playing field.

Other activities at the fun packed event, which runs from 12pm until 4pm, include face painting for children, a chance to be shown round the fire engines by firefighters and a penalty shoot out prize competition.

There will also be a chip pan fire demonstration with the opportunity to learn about and sign up to one of the free home fire safety visits offered by the Brigade. Local firefighters will visit your home, offer advice on how to avoid fires in the home and fit a smoke alarm for free if necessary.

Other agencies with stalls on the day will include the Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service. Food and refreshments will be available.

Waltham Forest Mayor Councillor Liaquat Ali, also a member of London Fire and Emergency Service, will open the event.

Waltham Forest Borough Commander Darren Dovey, said: "We’re here to serve the community so this will be a great opportunity for us to meet local people and show them how a fire station works. Our demonstrations and information will also help people to protect their homes from fire. Everyone is welcome so come along and meet your local firefighters.”
