Nine years ago today, the sky in Penge was filled with thick, black smoke as more than 50 firefighters and officers tackled a blaze at a flooring warehouse on Green Lane.

Ten fire engines attended the fire and residents living nearby were evacuated to Penge police station after gas cylinders were discovered at the site. Those allowed to remain in their homes were advised to keep their windows and doors shut.

Fortunately no-one was injured as the warehouse was empty when the fire started.
