MPs back our Total Recalls campaign after Shepherd's Bush fire

14 September 2016

MPs have turned the heat up on Whirlpool after we called on the white goods’ giant to change its advice on faulty tumble dryers following a huge tower block fire in Shepherd’s Bush.

MPs taking action

Yesterday Hammersmith MP Andy Slaughter led a debate in the House of Commons about  dangerous white goods. The Chair of the Select Committee for Business, Innovation and Skills, Iain Wright MP, has also written to the Managing  Director of Whirlpool UK asking whether the company is going to change its  advice to consumers in light of our recent safety warnings and  if not  to explain why not.

Whirlpool’s current advice is that people can continue to use  the dryers while they are waiting for them to be modified but that they should not be left unattended while they are being operated.

Our advice on tumble dryers

Our fire investigators believe the Shepherd's Bush tower block blaze was caused by a faulty Indesit tumble dryer and as part of our Total Recalls campaign we are urging people who own one of the affected products to unplug it immediately and stop using it until it has been checked and repaired.
