Christmas card from London Fire Brigade to New York girl who lost family to fire

14 December 2015

London Fire Commissioner has sent a Christmas card to a young New York girl who lost her family in a tragic fire.

Ron Dobson, the capital's fire chief posted his card after eight-year-old Safyre Terry's Christmas wish of correspondence from around the world was broadcasted on Facebook.

Safyre Terry's father and three younger siblings died in a deliberate fire in 2013.

Safyre was found in the debris and suffered severe burns, and in the months following the fatal blaze she lost her right hand and left foot.

The Brigade's Fire Cadets and Education Team members are also creating cards to send overseas and are hoping to get them over in time for Christmas Day.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

London Fire Commissioner Ron Dobson said: "When I heard about Safyre's wish I wanted to make sure her card tree was represented by London Fire Brigade, who have such a connection with NYFD.

"Her story is one of triumph over adversity and I wish her and her family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."

Safyre's aunt, who bought a tree to hang the festive cards on, took to Facebook to ask people to get their cards in.

Cards can be sent to:
