A wish come true

04 February 2015

Wembley Red Watch recently  turned fairy godmother when they helped Rays of Sunshine Children's Charity grant the wish of a seriously ill five year old boy called Saksham, who wanted to be a firefighter for the day.

Brave Saksham Mamgain has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia – a cancer of the white blood cells, but that didn’t stop him taking roll call and inspecting the watch to ensure they were all smartly rigged.

Brave rescue

After being shown the appliances he took part in a training exercise and even managed to rescue a stricken watch member from the third floor of the drill tower.

Saksham then had stand easy with the whole watch where they presented him with a cake to commemorate his day.

A brilliant firefighter

Crew Manager Alex Cardy said: “Saksham made a brilliant firefighter, approaching every activity with energy and enthusiasm. He is a true inspiration and it was an absolute pleasure having him at the station.”

After the visit Saksham’s dad said: “Saksham was diagnosed with blood cancer last year on his fifth birthday. We had a very tough time until his chemotherapy finished in November. My family was completely exhausted with frequent visits to the hospital, rigorous treatment & its side effects.

“Saksham’s wish was beautifully organised. Everyone at the Fire Station worked hard to keep Saksham happy and make him smile. Thanks to the brilliant Fire station and Rays of Sunshine for organising his wish.”
