New Chairman for London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority

London Assembly Member Gareth Bacon has been appointed as the new Chairman of London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA) which is the body that runs London Fire Brigade.


He officially takes up the position on Friday, 27 March, replacing James Cleverly AM who is standing down as Chairman following his selection as a parliamentary candidate in the General Election.

Gareth Bacon AM has been a councillor in the London Borough of Bexley since 1998.  He was elected to the London Assembly as a Conservative London-wide member in May 2008 and is the Conservative Group spokesman on environmental issues. He was appointed to LFEPA in June 2010 and has been a member of both the Resources and Strategy committees.

The next LFEPA meeting scheduled is the LFEPA Annual Meeting on 25 June. James Cleverly remains an LFEPA member until June.


The London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA) runs the London Fire Brigade. The 17 members of the Fire Authority are appointed by the Mayor of London. Eight are nominated from the London Assembly, seven are nominated from the London boroughs and two are Mayoral appointees.
