Sixth FBU strike ends

14 December 2013

The four hour strike staged by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) this evening (Saturday) has now ended.

This evening’s strike action, which started at 1800 and finished at 2200, is the sixth period of industrial action staged by the FBU since 25 September and  follows a  four hour strike yesterday evening.

Over the four hour period the Brigade’s 999 control officers received 88 calls. Of these, contingency fire crews responded to 14 incidents. These included:

• six dwelling fires, including a fire in a flat above a shop on Fencepiece Road in Ilford and a first floor flat in Millwall.

• two building fires

• two calls to people shut in lifts, one of whom had been released before crews had arrived.

• four false alarms

As with the previous five FBU strikes the Brigade’s priority is to return to normal business as quickly as possible.

The strike action relates to a dispute between the FBU and government over the Government’s reforms to the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme.
