London Fire Brigade

Multiple fires in London

08 August 2011

Firefighters are either fighting or trying to get to a number of fires across the capital, all related to the civil disturbances experienced over the past three nights. There have been a number of fires set in Croydon, with fire crews also attending incidents in Newham and Southwark. The fires involve commercial and residential buildings, cars and rubbish bins.

The Brigade is working closely with other emergency services and the police to access the fires that have been started, with safe access for the public and for our firefighters of paramount importance.

Since 6.00pm this evening we have been receiving very high numbers of calls to Brigade control and our control staff are working hard to manage the incidents being reported as quickly as possible.

We are organising firefighters at stations across London to ensure they can respond wherever and whenever possible.
