Brigade remains vigilant

London’s firefighters dealt with no significant fires associated with the recent unrest last night but crews remain vigilant.

The Brigade remains fully prepared to respond to any future events should civil disturbances occur again this week.

Our  999 Control Officers were still busy, handling just over a 1000 emergency calls in the 24 hour period between 00.01 and 23.59 on Wednesday 10 August There were no recorded attacks on firefighters or appliances.

The Brigade attended two major fires (four fire engines and above). Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to deal with a factory blaze on Lawrence Road in South Tottenham while in the morning crews dealt with a maisonette fire on Rainhill Way in Bow. Neither were associated with the recent public disturbances.

Crews were also called to investigate reports of youths setting  fire to a bus in Kensal Rise at around 0100 this morning but no fire was found when the Brigade arrived.
