Brigade 999 Control Officers remain busy but no calls to unrest

Emergency calls into the Brigade’s 999 Control Centre remained higher than normal last night but firefighters were not sent to deal with any significant fires associated with unrest.

Brigade Control Officers took 575 calls in the 24 hour period between 00.01 and 23.59 on Thursday11 August.

There were no attacks on fire engines or firefighters but the Brigade remains fully prepared to respond to any future events should civil disturbances occur again over the weekend.

In one large incident overnight firefighters attended a major fire in a block of flats in Wandsworth, rescuing ten people. Eight fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled the blaze. The fire was under control in around two hours.
