Refer a young person

LIFE (Local Intervention Fire Education) only considers applications submitted by education and other youth provisions.

In addition to this, we require consent from the young person's parents or carers. Family and friends cannot refer applicants.

The course involves a range of activities that teach young people the role of a firefighter such as:

  • Using ladders
  • Breathing apparatus equipment
  • Casualty rescue techniques

Participants also receive education about:

  • Fire safety at home and in the community
  • Living safe and healthly
  • Road safety awareness

What are the benefits of LIFE?

The programme helps build a young person's confidence and self-esteem while improving their teamwork and discipline and providing positive role models.

The acitivites involved require young people to develop leadership skills and gain an understanding about the consequences of their actions in certain situations.

Participants also gain an AQA accreditation during the programme.

Who can apply?

LIFE is open to young people between the ages of 14 and 17 years old.
