Greater London AuthorityThe Greater London Authority (GLA) was created in 2000 as London's regional government. The directly elected Mayor, Boris Johnson, represents and promotes London at home and abroad. The Mayor sets the policies and priorities of London's regional governments, prepares statutory strategies to deal with London-wide issues and co-ordinates action. The separately elected London Assembly has a duty to hold the Mayor to account and investigate London issues. The Mayor sets the budget for the Greater London Authority (GLA) and four "functional bodies": Transport for London, the Metropolitan Police Authority, the London Development Agency and us, the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority. The GLA/LFEPA working relationshipThe LFEPA is an authority in its own right with all the statutory responsibilities of a fire authority. The provisions in the GLA Act 1999 set the statutory framework on which the relationships between LFEPA and the Mayor and the Assembly are based.
