Our responses to consultations

LFEPA is consulted by government departments and bodies on proposed initiatives. These consultations give us an opportunity to have an impact on national and local policies which affect our services. This page shows past consultations and our responses.

Consultation takes place between LFEPA and government departments, the Greater London Authority and other government and local government bodies (such as the Audit Commission and the Local Government Association) on new proposed initiatives which affect the Authority.

Responses to proposals in consultation documents where the Authority already has an agreed policy approved by members are dealt with by officers under their delegated authority and don't form part of the Authority's Publication Scheme.

When we are consulted on proposals that deal with new initiatives, the appropriate department will draft a report. The report will set out what the consultation is about, how it will affect LFEPA and will comment on the proposals.

This report is considered by members of the Authority. They may then decide to add to or amend the report before submitting it as a letter to the relevant organisation.

From 1 April 2003, we will publish copies of our response to consultations here on London Fire. Usually within ten working days of the Authority meeting taking place.

You can see our draft responses to consultations (from July 2000 onwards) by going to the list of Authority reports.

Our responses to government consultation documents
The government consult on matters such as how public services are delivered and changes to legislation. LFEPA responds to those consultations affecting the way that fire and rescue services are delivered or changes to local government administration which affect it.

Our responses to GLA consultation documents
The Mayor of London has a statutory duty to consult LFEPA during the development of many of his strategies for London. He also consults LFEPA , and other functional bodies, on a range of other matters so that a co-ordinated approach to London issues is developed

Our responses to consultations to other governmental bodies
Governmental and local government bodies, such as the Audit Commission and the Local Government Association, consult LFEPA on a range of issues relating to the delivery of public services or changes to local government arrangements.
