Are you ready to be a firefighter?



There are a few criteria you will need to look through to see if you're able to apply to be a firefighter.

Eligibility criteria

To be a firefighter you must:

  • Be at least 17.5 years old when applying.
  • Be a UK/EU citizen, without work restrictions or be a permanent resident of the UK.
  • Have had a permanent London address for the past 12 months.
  • Hold a full UK manual driving licence.
  • Have successfully completed a Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) theory test before being invited to the medical examination – evidence will be required. 
  • Be able to pass rigorous physical and job related tests.
  • Pass medical and eye examinations.

**Candidates who commence training under the age of 18 will have to pay for and pass the LGV theory test after turning 18.

Exemptions

  • Serving Armed Forces Personnel can apply without having lived in London for 12 months – you'll need a copy of your current service record.  
  • Students from London who now study outside of London can apply.
  • Paid employees of LFB with a permanent contract but live outside of London can apply.
