National youth engagement seminarLondon Fire Brigade, in partnership with Communities and Local Government is holding a national seminar on youth engagement in the fire service on Wednesday, 25 June 2008.
• Agenda The seminar comes at a time when the government is looking for ways to share best practice and update the action plan arising from its Strategy for Children and Young People (CYP) 2006-2010. This seminar will focus in particular on work undertaken by the fire and rescue service in the area of tackling juvenile anti-social behaviour and report the results of a national survey of youth work in the fire and rescue service. Delegates will hear from a range of speakers and discuss key issues of youth engagement and debate the obstacles we face. Following the seminar a report with recommendations on youth engagement by the fire and rescue service will be submitted to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. AgendaThe keynote address will be given by the Rt Hon Hazel Blears MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. Agenda topics include:
• Government direction on youth engagement There will be representatives from the Department for Children, Schools and Families and some of the major national youth organisations speaking at the event. Sir Ken Knight, the Government’s Chief Fire Advisor will also be speaking. The afternoon session will include three workshops designed as discussion forums with expert panellists from a range of fields leading the discussion.

Who should attend?Chief fire officers, Fire Authority leaders and senior officers who have a strategic responsibility for youth engagement/community safety work. Representatives who lead on youth engagement strategy and policy including government departments, agencies, charities etc. Location

There is a discount rate of £115 per delegate for non-government organisations (including charities). This cost will include a three course lunch.
