Fire risk assessment course

This interactive module is designed to assist managers in meeting their legal requirements for conducting fire risk assessments.

Course overview

It provides a comprehensive look at the concept of Fire Risk Assessment, and focuses on those preventive and protective fire safety measures that will help to effectively reduce the level of fire risk.

The course material and handouts are used with reference to current legislation and ‘best practice’ guidance. Delegate understanding is tested by a short written assessment.

Aim

To provide delegates with the knowledge & understanding to undertake fire risk assessments in offices, small retail and similar premises.

Courses are available throughout the year (subject to conditions).

Duration

One day (0900 to 1700).

Venue

London Fire Brigade Training Centre venues at Southwark, London SE1 (how to get there). Training can also be arranged at alternative venues or at your own premises – subject to conditions (see price structure for details).

On completion, delegates will receive a certificate valid for two years. Training notes and refreshments including lunch will be provided.

Learning objectives

By the end of this training delegates should be able to:

  • State the key legal requirements in connection with fire risk assessment
  • Recognise and define relevant terminology relating to the principles of fire risk assessment
  • Identify 2 ‘best practice’ examples of fire risk assessment methodology, and appropriate sources of guidance
  • Apply the (HSE) 5 step approach to the process of fire risk assessment
  • Effectively document the essential elements of a fire risk assessment
  • Identify and apply effective ’follow up’ actions subsequent to a fire risk assessment

Prerequisites

Due to the intensive nature of this module, it is highly recommended that delegates have previously attended the London Fire Brigade Fire Warden course.

This training will benefit managers and others who are responsible for conducting or reviewing fire risk assessments for offices, small retail and similar premises.

The course will also prove an invaluable insight for those managers looking to engage the services of another organisation to carry out their fire risk assessment.
