Shand Mason hydrant, iron c. 1890s. This type of hydrant was not used by the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB). The MFB used its own hydrants in the streets. A possible explanation for this type of hydrant is that it was available from Shand Mason for commercial use, possibly located in a private building or yard.
