Borough team profile

Profile of borough teams and the services they deliver at local level.

The Assistant Commissioner Service Delivery (part of the Fire and Community Safety Directorate) is responsible for delivering operational firefighting and rescue services, statutory fire safety inspections and fire safety advice to the public. These services are delivered at local level through borough teams following an organisational restructure in 2001.

There are thirty three borough commanders, one for each London borough and one for the City of London. Borough commanders - all of divisional officer rank - are responsible for service delivery within each borough. The borough team includes the borough commander, station commanders, fire safety inspecting officers, admin staff and station based firefighting staff.

Borough commanders are located in the borough for which they are responsible and, as far as possible, their teams are also located locally. This creates a local focus for service delivery and strengthens communication links between the Brigade, borough agencies and organisations and residents. A full list of contact details are available on the borough teams page.

The thirty three borough commanders are managed by six senior divisional officers who are responsible for their boroughs' performance and achievements to the Assistant Commissioner Service Delivery. The Assistant Commissioner Service Delivery is part of the Directorate of Fire and Community Safety's principal management team and is supported by a central team comprising both uniformed and non-uniformed staff.
