Performance figures

This page consists of accessible information describing the graphs shown on our recent performance pages.

These performance indicators are used to measure the performance of our organisation. These include some which are specific to the firefighting and rescue and fire safety services and others which relate to how well we run our organisation generally. There are 3 types of indicators:

• Best value performance indicators (BVPIs), which are a series of indicators given to us by the government and make it possible to compare our performance with other fire brigades/local authorities.
• London fire performance indicators (LFPIs) are local indicators set by LFEPA members. They include targets, and are used to measure performance in other key aspects of the service we deliver.
• London fire service measures (LFSMs) which are also set locally, but differ from LFPIs in that we do not set targets for them. We use these to monitor activity levels which help us plan our resources, and to monitor trends to establish whether actions is needed.

Graph 2: Calls to fires attended (Primary fires) - BVPI 142ii

Primary fires (serious fires) are those recorded on the government's fire damage report (FDR1) form, and are defined as an event of uncontrolled burning involving flames, heat or smoke involving property, or casualties or rescue, or fires attended by five or more appliances.
