Our performance

As a public service our performance and the way that we use our resources are very important.

We've just published our performance figures for 2007/08 in our report Our Performance 2007/08 [pdf icon - click to find out how to get Acrobat Reader PDF 582kb].

Every year we set targets and monitor our performance against them and make any improvements we can to the services we provide in London. Some of these targets are about reducing fires and other emergency incidents, others are about how we deliver our emergency response and the community safety prevention work we do. Other targets relate to how well we run our organisation.

Along with all UK fire and rescue services and local authorities, we are subject to an annual assessment by the Audit Commission where we are given a score to show how well we are doing as an organisation.

Find out more about our external performance assessment.

Up to 2007/08, we had government performance indicators (Best Value indicators) as well as indicators we set locally (London Fire performance indicators). From 2008/09, we only have two government National Indicators (NIs) with the rest of our other performance indicators set locally (LIs).

We also have a series of other ‘service measures’ (without targets) to help show and monitor activity levels and these help us plan our resources, and monitor trends to establish whether actions is needed.

Our Corporate Plan 2008/11 will also contain key performance information and sets out our targets for the next three years. This will be published soon.

A series of detailed thematic reports have also been produced - offering detailed analysis of our performance in a specific area, as well as background information and analysis:
