A fixed-term opportunity has arisen within the Authority’s Schools Team, which is based in our Service Delivery department. This team is responsible for the delivery of fire safety education to children of primary school age, providing them with knowledge, skills and a level of fire safety awareness that will remain with them into adulthood.
Responsible to the Schools Team Manager, the successful candidate will work alongside the other established Deputy Schools Team Manager and will need to have experience of working with minimal supervision in order to jointly manage a team of peripatetic Schools Officers who are spread out across the entire Brigade area.
You must be able to demonstrate an understanding of child protection issues and have good interpersonal skills, enabling you to work effectively with children, teachers, parents/carers and other staff across the Authority.
The role, whilst based centrally at Union Street, will involve frequent visits to other locations, such as schools, private residences and fire stations in order to carry out the full duties of the post effectively. The Deputy Schools Team Manager will have particular responsibility for developing and expanding our work with children who have Special Educational Needs. There will also be a requirement for individuals to carry out duties relating to the Juvenile Firesetters Intervention Scheme (JFIS), therefore an element of selection will relate to the needs of that section.
Successful application will be subject to the receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced CRB check.
Assessment will be by tests, a presentation and interview in April 2010 and will be held at our Assessment Centre in Hammersmith. Please be aware, if you are unable to make the assessment dates we may not be able to make alternative arrangements.
