We are responsible for enforcing fire safety legislation in the capital, including that relating to the storage and dispensing of petroleum spirit and responsibilities for disused petrol tanks.
A vacancy has arisen for an Inspecting Officer who will provide professional and technical expertise to ensure that the Brigade’s responsibilities under the Public Health Act, 1961, Section 73 are discharged effectively.
The postholder will be required to analyse historical data in order to determine appropriate locations for inspection. They will inspect premises, prepare inspection reports, instigate action to make disused petrol tanks ‘permanently safe’ and serve notices under the relevant legislation where required.
You will need experience of dealing with the public, company representatives and property owners in a diplomatic and professional manner. Practical experience of reading and interpreting drawings of a technical nature is also required. With proven organisational skills you will also need strong communication skills along with experience of working on your own initiative and with minimal supervision. A full clean driving licence is also essential.
This position is offered initially for a period of six months with the possibility of extension.
