London Fire Brigade

Brigade takes part in New Year Parade for first time

23 December 2008

Thousands of spectators will get to see how London Fire Brigade is protecting the capital when it takes part in the annual New Year’s Day Parade for the first time on 1 January.

The Brigade will be joining floats and performers from around the world as the 23rd annual parade winds its way along a two mile route from Parliament Square to Piccadilly.

A Brigade float will carry a map of London and firefighters wearing different fire gear and specialist equipment will demonstrate the range of specialist response provided by the capital’s fire and rescue service today.

Chairman of London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority, Cllr Brian Coleman AM FRSA said: “With around half a million people expected to line the route and many more watching on television, the New Year’s Day Parade is a very good opportunity for us to show Londoners and visitors the specialist skills that we have at our disposal to protect them from fire and to prepare for major incidents and emergencies, including terrorist attacks.”

Notes to editors:

The Lord Mayor’s show starts at 12 noon at Parliament Square and finishes on Piccadilly, at Berkeley Street at approximately 3pm
