The Queen's Fire Service Medal is awarded by Her Majesty the Queen to those members of the fire service who have exhibited devotion to duty or acts of gallantry.
Max joined the Brigade as a firefighter working in north west London at fire stations including Kensington, Fulham, Wembley and Ealing before moving to a variety of roles at headquarters. These included leading on initiatives in training and development, fire safety, operational planning and service delivery.
In 2006/07 he was seconded to the Department for Communities and Local Government where he led on a national operational assessment of all fire and rescue services in England.
Assistant Commissioner Hood said: “I’m honoured to have been awarded the Queen’s Fire Service Medal in this year’s Birthday Honours list. The medal has been awarded for distinguished service which I believe not only recognises my own contribution but I could not have achieved this without the assistance of those colleagues around me.”
Councillor Brian Coleman AM, FRSA, Chairman of London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority, said: “I am delighted that Max has been awarded the Queen’s Fire Service Medal which recognises his long standing dedication to the fire and rescue service and his work at the Brigade but also the work he has done at a national level.”
