Navin Shah was elected as a Harrow Councillor for Kenton East Ward in 1994. He was the Leader of Harrow Council between 2004 and 2006 and the Borough’s Labour Group Leader until the end of June 2008.

He was appointed to the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority in 2007 and is now the Leader of the Authority’s Labour Group. In May 2008 he was elected to represent Brent and Harrow on the Greater London Assembly.
