Liaquat Ali was first elected to Waltham Forest Council in May 1994 and was Mayor of the Borough from 2007-2008. He was a member of the London Fire and Civil Defence Authority from 1994 to 2000 and has served on the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority since 2000. Between 2002 and 2008 he was Chair of the Human Resources, Equalities and Health and Safety Panel.
