A councillor in the London Borough of Bexley since 1998, Gareth has served as Vice Chairman of the Town Planning Committee (1998-2002), Deputy Mayor (2001-2002), Shadow Cabinet Spokesman for Environment, Transport and Regeneration (2003-2006) and Cabinet Member for the Environment (2006 - present).
Gareth was elected to the London Assembly as a Conservative London-wide member in May 2008 and is the Conservative Group spokesman on environmental issues. He also serves on the Budget & Performance Committee.
Gareth was appointed to the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority in June 2010.
