Barking - fire at industrial unit

22 February 2018

Four fire engines and 21firefighters and officers were called to a fire in a two-storey metal shipping container on Atcost Road in Barking this morning.

Half of the ground-floor shipping container filled with paper and plastic packaging was damaged by fire.

Watch Manager Kevin Morris who was at the scene, said: "Firefighters worked extremely hard to create a water relay from the nearest hydrant due to limited water supplies on site. This meant we were able to limit damage and bring this fire under control quickly.”

The Brigade was called at 1128 and the fire was under control by 1409. Fire crews from Barking, Ilford, Dagenham, and Stoke Newington fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental due to burning rubbish.
