Fire crews have rescued a man from a smoke filled flat on Churchill Terrace in Chingford this afternoon. Two fire engines and around ten firefighters were called to the scene at 1135 after neighbours saw smoke pouring out of the letterbox.
Watch Manager John Tovey, who was at the scene said:
“There was no fire but the whole of the flat was full of smoke. When we entered the flat we saw smoke coming from the oven caused by chips being left unattended. A man was asleep inside the ground floor flat and crews wearing breathing apparatus rescued him. My advice is never leave your cooking unattended, if we haven’t been called when we did this incident could have been a lot worse.”
The man was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
The incident was over by 1201.
