House and caravan fire in Barking

28 June 2012

Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters tackled a fire on Roycraft Avenue in Barking, IG11 today.

A caravan on the driveway of a house was completley damaged by the fire. Part of the ground floor and first floor of the semi detached house, as well as part of an adjacent shed were also damaged.

Two  gas cylinders were inside the caravan and as cylinders can explode when exposed to heat, firefighters set up a 25 metre safety cordon.

Both cylinders were cooled and removed by firefighters.

A man and a woman escaped from the house before the Brigade arrived. The man was suffering from small burns to his head and the woman was suffering from slight smoke inhalation. Both were treated by London Ambulance Service crews at the scene.

The Brigade was called at 1402 and teh fire was under control by 1502.

Fire crews from Dagenham, Barking, East Ham and Plaistow fire stations are at the scene.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
