Southwark restaurant fire

25 June 2012

A fire broke out in a restaurant on Blackfriars Road in Southwark, SE1, on Sunday afternoon. Around eight customers escaped from the restaurant before fire crews arrived on the scene. A member of the restaurant’s staff was suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

The Brigade’s fire investigators believe the blaze started in a deep fat fryer in the kitchen and spread to the roof of the building. Part of the first floor roof was damaged by the fire.

Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to the fire at 1412 and the fire was under control by 1603.

Fire crews from Whitechapel, Soho, Lambeth and Old Kent Road fire stations were at the scene.
