Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters were called to a flat fire on Bournevale Road in Streatham last night. The fire severely damaged the ground floor flat.
Four people left the building before we arrived.
Crew Manager at Norbury Fire Station Michael Balchin said:
“There were no working smoke alarms in the property. Had this incident happened overnight, then this could of had a nastier outcome. It is essential that everyone has a working smoke alarm and test it regularly.”
The Brigade was called at 2050 and the fire was under control by 2121. Fire crews from West Norwood and Norbury fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
