Four fire engines were called to a fire in a five room flat located on a thirteen floor building on Wandsworth Road , SW8 in the early hours of this morning.
A smaller amount of the bathroom was damaged by smoke.
Crew Manager from Lambeth fire station Paul Meyrick said:
“The fire started in the bathroom which we think was caused by water getting into a light fitting. There was quite a lot of smoke and her smoke alarm alerted her to the fire. She did exactly the right thing; she had a working smoke alarm, got out of the flat and called the fire brigade. Everyone should follow her example if they have a fire in their home.”
The Brigade was called at 0003 and the fire was under control at 0047. Firefighters from Lambeth and Clapham fire stations were at the scene.
