Walworth - flat fire

20 July 2011

Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called to a fire in a tower block on Otto Street in Walworth SE17 today. The fire damaged a small part of a five room flat on the tenth floor of the 16 storey block. Around 50 people left the flats of their own accord.

Station Manager Sam Kazmanli, who was at the scene said: “The fire was relatively small and crews worked really hard to get it under control quickly. Fortunately no on was injured.”

The Brigade was called at 1127 and the fire was under control by 1326. Firefighters from Brixton, Lambeth, Old Kent Road, Peckham and Clapham fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the blaze is now under investigation by the Brigade’s fire investigators.
